But I came close.

I am never, ever going sailing alone again. Ever.

Oh, my poorest journal. Whatever shall I do with you?

First week of school was about as good as could be expected. My math class is gonna be fun, I can feel it. Mostly because Maura's in there, too. It can get pretty interesting between the two of us.

Probably gonna go sailing tomorrow, but now... homework. Yes, Suislaw teachers give homework. On Fridays. During the first week of school.

My poor neglected livejournal. Bad Lucy. Anyway, umm... I really don't have that much to say. I've been keeping busy, working on the Peanut, doing some mapping, quad riding, etc. School starts up again in a few weeks, which means cutting back on everything. ugh.

I want to go back to Maryland, even though it's UNBEARABLE this time of year. I like Maryland. I don't know what I'll do if I'm not accepted to the Naval Academy... probably just stay here and fix sailboats, haha.

Well, that's really all I can say. Until next time!

We’re going down to Brookings for the kite festival this weekend! Yay! They’re having a race, but I won’t be competing. Darn. Maybe next year.

Whew! Man, that was intense!

...

You're probably wondering what THAT was about.

Well, my friend, gather round, and I shall tell you the tale. Or at least an abridged version of it.

Okay. So my dad, my brother, and I sailed up the Oregon coast (little sis didn't come - she gets seasick, which I personally find rather ironic, since the whole family is obsessed with sailing), and that took a few days, and when we came back, there was a message from my uncle who lives in Annapolis that there was a last minute cancellation in this HUGE annual race - IN MY CLASS!! So to make a long story short, I flew out there, borrowed one of his boats (he's got like five, and one of them is essentially the same as the Peanut - it took me all of two minutes to rerig some stuff and I was good to go), and entered this race. Normally I sign up for it a long time before it fills up because it fills up so fast, but there was a bit of a fiasco and we ended up being in Australia when they opened sign-ups and by the time we got back... yeah. Anyway, I ended up placing twelfth in my division. I would have liked to have made the top 10, but oh well, there's always next time, and it's still better than the twenty-seventh I did last year!! Go me!! Next year... Top 10!!!

Now I've gotta crash. Jet lag...

Well, we ended up going to North Bend, and it was an absolute blast, of course, although the weather wasn’t quite going our way. Riding quads when it’s overcast and slightly misty isn’t the same as when it’s 80 degrees and sunny, but oh well, right? Right!

Wow, I sound so... perky.

What else... hmmm... let me see... I should probably try to get a job sometime this summer. Mom mentioned something about the forest service a while back, which could be cool, especially with the all the awesome parks we have around here, but I’d much rather do something down at the harbor. Lucy the park ranger… ha. Maybe I should ask around and see if anyone needs some underwater mapping done; I’m actually getting pretty good at that. I mapped Cleawox the other day! Go me! I’ve got to go down there sometime within the next few days and scrape those barnacles off the Peanut. Everyone tells me not to be so neurotic about them, but I really can’t stand barnacles!

I hope it’s sunny tomorrow. If it is, Carrie, Maura, Jen and I might have a picnic at Woahink! We should find some hot guys to go with us... maybe I’ll call Evan...

...

Nah.

It was SO hot yesterday. Carrie, my brother, and one of his friends went quad riding down at Honeyman… it was like a desert. Peter wants to go down to North Bend this weekend, and it looks like Mom and Dad will go for it. It’s always crowded this time of the year, but if we do it now, we’ll beat the inevitable Independence Day weekend rush.

Argh, there’s barnacles on the Peanut. I hate barnacles. I’ll clean them off tomorrow if I don’t have to help get ready for North Bend.

Saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban tonight with Carrie. It was the second time for her and third for me. Yes, we’re obsessed. Maybe someday I’ll drag Peter down there too… he needs to become addicted to Harry Potter just like the rest of us. Can’t wait for Goblet of Fire – Charlie!! Yay!!

Whew! I love this whole “school’s out” thing – more time for sailing! My friend Maura and I went out for a few hours this afternoon on the Packing Peanut. It was a total blast, of course, even though I need a new sail in a real BAD way. I’ve been thinking about making my own, but I’m not entirely sure what material to use; maybe when we go to Australia this year I’ll ask around down there. Yep, that sounds like a plan to me.

Oy vey, livejournal. So new to all of this… out to make some friends and do fun stuff with the layout. Wish me luck!
